12/3/2012 2:54:00 PM Camp Verde Christmas: Come early, stay late
Camp Verde’s Christmas Light parade will start down Main Street at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. The parade is the culmination of a day’s worth of activities that includes an annual Christmas Craft Bazaar in the Community Center and visit from Santa.
For the last decade the town has hosted a fun-filled day and evening on the second Saturday of the month, featuring Santa Claus, the annual Christmas Craft Bazaar and a parade of lights once the sun goes down.
As always the highlight will be the Christmas Light Parade down Main Street. The festively decorated and brilliantly lit floats are set to shove off at 6 p.m.
Camp Verde's Light parade has been a hit with residents and visitors alike since it began almost a decade ago. This year's parade promises to be no exception.
Like Christmas, Santa has also made a habit of coming early to the downtown celebration, usually showing up around breakfast time, just as the all-day Christmas Bazaar is starting up.
But this year, we are told, Santa will be breakfasting elsewhere that day. So the breakfast has been canceled and instead Santa will be timing this year's visit in conjunction with the parade.
He should be arriving slightly before, during or after the parade. And, as always, he will be taking requests from all the good children on the stage in the Community Center Gymnasium.
And even though Santa won't be there early, the Christmas Craft Bazaar will. Doors to the Community Center Gym will open at 9 a.m. and stay open until 9 p.m.
The bazaar is a great opportunity to pick up handmade, one-of-a-kind gifts from local craft makers and artists.
Down Hollamon Street from the gym, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the staff and volunteers at Fort Verde will host their annual Victorian Christmas workshop.
Children of all ages are invited to stop and learn how to make traditional Christmas decorations they can take home for their own holiday celebration.
