Camp Verdeans have never been known to wilt away when the guacamuggies send most folks indoors.

And it is certainly not the case with their popular Free Fourth Friday event in downtown.

After a couple of star parties earlier this year, the Town of Camp Verde will be featuring a car party this Friday, Aug. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Dubbed the "Hot August Nights Car Show," the event will include hot rods and vintage cars, and will take place in the parking lot at Wingfield Plaza on Main Street.

The car show will also include a raffle, a hula hoop contest, bubblegum blowing contest and classic rock music to set the mood.

If you are up to it, feel free to put on your best retro wardrobe (poodle skirts, cuffed levis, a pack of Lucky Strikes in the sleeve of your tee) and join the scene.

And just like the star parties, cars won't be the only things going on.

Fort Verde State Historic Park will be open all evening, with free admission and self-guided tours, and the Verde Valley Archaeology Center will also be open.

The Horn Saloon, Camp Verde's premier night spot, will be hosting its first "Hornfest," a play on the recent Cornfest in downtown.

The Hornfest is advertised as "a night dedicated to emerging music" and will include a performance by Bret Worth and the Chromatics.

White Hills Gallery will have a reception for its new group exhibition, "Maps of Urban Intervention."
