Cowboy Day at Tlaquepaque: Scavenger hunt for Little Hollywood Museum
Whoop it up at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village when we celebrate the National Day of the Cowboy on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tap your toes to live western music, thrill to deadeye gunslinger reenactments, chow down on some mighty tasty vittles and for young-uns with a mind for fun, a wild west bouncer that will have them jumping for joy.

Let's celebrate Sedona's cowboy movie legacy! To support the effort to build a film history museum right here in Sedona, we'll be hosting a "sneak peek" scavenger hunt where you'll be able to search Tlaquepaque for artifacts that will be on future display in Arizona's Little Hollywood Museum (ALHM).

For cowpokes and cowgirls with gumption who hanker for hands-on Wild West action, ride the mechanical bull from noon until 4 p.m. in the Calle at Tlaquepaque. All proceeds will be donated to the Arizona's Little Hollywood Foundation (ALHF) 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to build the new film history museum.

Museum volunteers and staff will be on hand to answer your questions about the museum and its progress with more information on our website:

There also will be a special effects makeup table, where people can make a donation to the museum and get their faces painted with gunshot wounds or cowboy mustaches.

Author Joe McNeill will be signing copies of his Western Writers of America Spur Award-nominated book "Arizona's Little Hollywood: Sedona and Northern Arizona's Forgotten Film History 1923-1973."

Watch out for zombie cowboys roaming Tlaquepaque! They're creepy characters from the award-winning Zaki Gordon Institute film, "Dead West," which will be screened during the festivities.

So come to Tlaquepaque, "the Art and Soul of Sedona," to honor American cowboys and the western arts, culture, music, movies and traditions they made world famous. Yee-haw! It's a free event, too.

ALHF's Mission is dedicated to creating a world class museum focusing on the history of motion pictures with particular emphasis on the films photographed on location in Northern Arizona. ALHF will be a funding resource for arts and cultural community organizations in Sedona and the Verde Valley.

Sedona's Celebration of National Day of the Cowboy is a free community event presented by Sedona Main Street Program on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is an Arizona Centennial Official Event, being held along Apple Avenue, State Route 89A in Uptown and at Tlaquepaque on SR 179 in the Sedona Main Street District. Enjoy "a whole lot of cowboy goin's on," thanks to Title Sponsor Red Rock Western Jeep Tours and other business sponsors and contributors.

You'll find gunfights, historical reenactments, trick roping and whip cracking, a tribute to Wyatt Earp by his great-nephew, an equestrian team with rodeo royalty, a social club in period costume, the Arizona Rangers, cowboy poetry and cowboy storytelling, western performances, a mechanical bull and a bag toss or roping training for little cowpokes.

Throughout the day there will be a variety of country music performances and art demonstrations. You can even watch a Bladesmith at work. Stop by the event's beer garden on Apple Avenue or take the Sedona Wine Walk. Fill up at the food booths or any of the restaurants and outdoor cafes along the sidewalks and plazas. Shop the stores and galleries for western goods from fine art and décor to western and outdoor wear.

Wear your western finery or cowboy duds or come as you are and join in the spirit. This event is presented by Sedona Main Street Program and made possible by: Title Sponsor - Red Rock Western Jeep Tour; Gold Star Sponsor - Sedona Pines Resorts; Bronze Star Sponsor - Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel & Creekside Villas; and our Star Contributors - The Red Rock Posse, Channel 18 TV, BSE Rents and the City of Sedona.
