Literary Arts for Rural Communities (aka NORAZ) is continuing the celebration of its sixth season of literature and creativity with a special Friday Poets Corner, in the Sedona Arts Center's sculpture garden, on July 6 from 4-5 p.m. featuring the renowned poet, writer and NPR commentator, Mary Sojourner; author of Bonelight:ruin and grace in the desert southwest and Delicate.

"Mary is the quintessential warrior for the wild in the desert southwest." says LARC founder, Christopher Ya'ir Lane. "She has been an inspiration to my writing career and can pull the words right out of you."

Sojourner is the author of two novels, Sisters of the Dream (1989) and Going Through Ghosts; the short story collection, Delicate; essay collection, Bonelight: ruin and grace in the New Southwest; memoirs, Solace: rituals of loss and desire and She Bets Her Life. She is an intermittent NPR commentator and the author of countless essays, columns and op eds for High Country News, Writers on the Range and dozens of other publications. She teaches writing, in private circles, one-on-one, at colleges and universities, writing conferences and book festivals. She believes in both the limitations and possibilities of healing. Writing is the most powerful tool she has found for doing what is necessary to mend.

Sojourner will offer a two-hour writing circle exploring our deep truths - truths in our prose, our poetry and in our lives. "Expect to write.", says Sojourner. "Expect to take you and your writing further into honesty and joy."

The writing circle is from 1:30 to 3:30, free and open to the public, and suggested donations of $10 are greatly appreciated.

Then from 4-5 p.m., Sojourner will be reading from Going Through Ghosts, Bonelight:ruin and grace in the New Southwest - essay collection; and some poetry and prose poems, from her year in the Mojave.

The Poets Corner takes place once a month on the first Friday of each month from 4-5 p.m. at the Sedona Arts Center located at 15 Art Barn Road in Uptown Sedona. Gatherings take place in the outside sculpture garden, weather permitting. Should inclement weather arise, the Poets Corner will meet in the south classroom of SAC. For more information, contact Christopher Lane at (928) 301-3744.
