Factory Outlets art show to feature work of Sandy Lorenz

June 8-9-10 will be the dates for the next Art and Craft Show at the Factory Outlets. There will be around 50 artists and more local artists are starting to join in the shows.

This week's featured artist will be a local who has been a registered nurse for many years, specializing in home and hospice care. Six years ago, Sandy Lorenz started taking stained glass classes at a local community college and fell in love with working with glass. Her kitchen became her studio. Her dogs had to remind her that it was suppertime as she frequently lost track of time. She has won several awards for her stained glass designs.

During one semester, her instructor indroduced the class to fused glass, and Sandy was intrigued with what one could do with heating glass and how unexpected were some of the results. She started out making necklaces and earrings, but soon found that making larger pieces such as bowls and platters were more fun. Sandy could create her own tiles of glass to enhance the beauty of each piece of fused glass. She is constantly taking classes in new fused glass techniques from renowned glass professionals.

With ecology in mind, Sandy has been making her own glass by recycling her broken glass into one of a kind glass mosaics. She is also recycling wine bottles into hummingbird feeders and serving bowls. She has also been making beer bottles into wind chimes and suncatchers. Sandy's glass works are not only imaginative, but are functional and you can also see her work in the Village Gallery.

There will be jewelry, photography, paintings. sculpture, metal art, mirrors, rugs, glass, crystals, copper art, soaps and spa products, wood basket trivits, Mata Ortiz pottery gourd art, pearls, sandpaintings, pottery, and more.

The Art Show is at the Factory Outlets, and the hours are 9 to 6, Fri., Sat. and Sunday, June 8-9-10. The Factory Outlets are located on Hwy 179 in the Village of Oakcreek, Sedona. For more information, please call (928)284-9627 or visit
