5/21/2012 8:03:00 AM New rock and jewelry shop opens in Village
The Village Rock Shop of Sedona will open its doors Saturday, May 26, in the Village of Oak Creek, on Hwy 179.
This will be an all-day event, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with refreshments and one free raffle ticket per person for a fine mineral specimen to go home with one lucky winner.
The Village Rock Shop of Sedona is a brand new rock, mineral, and jewelry gallery to the area, although its proprietors, Patti Polk and Mike Silberhorn, are not new to the field of collecting rocks and minerals.
Patti is a world-renowned agate collector, with well over 20 years of field collecting experience, and is the author of the best-selling book "Collecting Rocks, Gems and Minerals," published in 2010, now in its second edition due in October 2012.
Patti's work has also been published in Rock and Gem magazine, and she specializes in creating unusual copper and silver jewelry pieces utilizing stones that she has personally field collected, hand-cut, and polished.
Mike Silberhorn is a master cabochon cutter and fine jewelry designer. M
ike's outstanding Sterling Silver jewelry pieces feature one-of-a-kind, hand-cut cabochons made from a variety of gemstone materials, such as Malachite or Dinosaur Bone, that he personally selects individually for their exceptional patterns and color. Mike's silversmithing work is of the very highest quality and is eagerly sought after by many galleries and fine jewelry collectors.
The gallery will offer a wide variety of collectible rocks and minerals for both display and lapidary uses.
For lapidary artists, there will be rough material and cut slabs available, tumbled stones for wire wrapping, and finished cabochons.
For display, there will be beautiful polished agates and geodes, and lovely mineral specimens ready to decorate your favorite table or shelf.
Much of the material in the store will be local to Arizona and the Southwest.
Mike and Patti will also be offering a number of classes ranging from wire wrapping your own Sedona stone to creating a finished piece of jewelry that you make yourself from Precious Metal Clay.
Additional services provided will be custom jewelry making, stone cutting, and lapidary supplies. Original art will also be available for purchase.
And, last but not least, the shop will offer live music on selected evenings with open mic nights hosted by a variety of local musicians, so be sure to inquire when the next session will be so you don't miss out on any of the fun.
The Village Rock Shop of Sedona is located at 6101 Hwy 179 between the Blue Moon Café and Absolute Bikes, near Bell Rock Road in the Village of Oak Creek.
