4/16/2012 8:11:00 AM Verde Valley Wine symposium a chance to satisfy curiosities Buzz-Worthy Grapes
The first ever Verde Valley Wine Symposium will be an opportunity for those who are curious about the local wine scene, as well as those who are curious about wine in general to learn why it has become such an important addition to the valley’s landscape
If you have been wondering what all the buzz is about Verde Valley wines and the burgeoning wine industry in general, now is the best chance you will have this year to satisfy those curiosities.
An Saturday, April 28, the Verde Valley Wine Consortium, in conjunction with Yavapai College, Yavapai College Foundation and the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce, will host the valley's first ever Verde Valley Wine Symposium at the Hotel at Cliff Castle Casino.
It will be an opportunity to hear from the experts, meet the winemakers and shakers and, if you haven't done so already, sample the wines everyone is talking about.
It is meant to be a learning experience, as well as a good time, while raising funds to continue all the good work being done around the valley as far as the wine industry is concerned.
"We plan on this being the first of many such events," says Tom Pitts, president of the consortium. "We have believed from the beginning that education plays a huge role in growing the industry and this is a way to learn a little while having a lot of fun."
It will also be an opportunity to help build the wine community.
"What has been going on here for the last few years is only getting bigger. We hope the symposium will showcase all the good things that go with a prosperous industry, to those who live here, in hopes they will also become a part of it," says Pitts.
The one-day event begins at 10 a.m. with the symposium, which, in this case, is a gathering of wine lovers, wine experts and winemakers, learning about and discussing wine and all that goes with it.
At 2:30, the wine and hors d'oeuvres will come out while the consortium auctions off all the beautifully decorated wine barrels, on displayed throughout the valley.
The auction (with more wine to be sold off) will be followed at 6 p.m. (or there about) with a wine dinner (featuring valley wines) that any wine aficionado or epicurean will appreciate.
The cost of an entire day's ticket, including the dinner, is $100 for consortium members ($125 for non-member) or tickets can be purchased separately for the wine tasting and auction ($20) or the symposium ($30).
The symposium is a cumulative effort between the Verde Valley Wine Consortium, Tickets are available online at www.yc.edu/winesymposium2012.
