Arizona Pastel Artist Association Spring Juried Show at SAC

The Arizona Pastel Artist Association will host a private exhibit at the Special Exhibition Gallery at the Sedona Arts Center.

The gallery is located at 15 Art Barn Road, Sedona, adjacent to the Sedona Art Center. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

The show runs two weeks, April 13-25.

A reception will be held Saturday, April 14, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The show is a display of the juried award winners of the APAA Spring Membership Show.

The pastel paintings represent a wide variety of styles and subject matter including: landscapes, portraits, still life, abstracts, and plein air.

The show will be judged by Chris Saper, an active instructor, speaker and demonstrator. She has delivered more than 375 commissioned portraits to clients nationwide since beginning her portrait business in 1991.

The author of "Classic Portrait Paintings in Oils; Keys to Mastering Diverse Skin Tones" and "Painting Beautiful Skin Tones with Color and Light," Chris has also filmed 4 instructional DVDs which are published by North Light Books.

Her work has also been featured in numerous art and art instruction magazines. Chris has served on the faculties of the Portrait Society of America and the Scottsdale Artist School. She is a master pastelist.

"Pastel" comes from the word paste made of pure powdered color pigment bound together and molded into stick form.

Basically pastel is pure pigment applied to a painting surface, which results in vivid colors and a luminous appearance.

Pastel has the same stature as oil and watercolor as a major fine art medium.

Edgar Degas was the most prolific user of pastel and his protégée; Mary Cassatt introduced pastel to the U.S.A.
