4/9/2012 8:01:00 AM Symphony League Garden Party April 21
Come one, come all to the best little Garden Party in all of Sedona.
The Sedona Flagstaff Symphony League is having a fund-raiser Saturday, April 21, 2-5 p.m. at a signature home in Foothills South. Music, wine, food, and good fellowship - what more could you want?
Tamara Fernandes and her husband, Tom Fernandes, will be singing - they are local dentists, and participants in the Super Star competition (Tamara won!) Tamara is part of the Bill family; they have long been active in the Sedona music scene. There also will be performances by student musicians Aurora Lawrie, Kestrel Gorlick and Sam Grandaw.
The Symphony League has been active for almost 30 years and has brought the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra to Sedona for Pops Concerts at Tlaquepaque, Poco Diablo, and local parks.
There have been smaller FSO groups for Musicales, and concerts in the schools - 11 performances last season. The Symphony League has taken school children to FSO youth concerts in Flagstaff.
Now, the League is planning to have a major portion of the FSO come to the Sedona Performing Arts Center and play for high school and elementary students. This Young People's Concert will include explanations of the instruments used and the musical compositions being presented.
Laura Kelly, Executive Director of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, coordinates with the schools to integrate information on the concert pieces, themes, and composers into the regular class work to enrich the curriculum and help the students relate better to the music they will hear.
Come help us keep the music flowing. Call Chairman Melody Umstead (928 282-3001) for tickets to the Garden Party and information on the venue.
