Get in line for Cottonwood's 22nd annual Old Fashioned Easter Egg Hunt at Riverside

Jon Hutchinson
Kudos Staff Reporter

Draw a big colored egg on your calendar April 7th and make a special bag to collect all those fabulous colorful eggs. Because it's the 22nd annual Cottonwood Old Fashioned Easter Egg hunt, a staple of Spring. The Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department is known for its competitive races. This is one of the oldest....and it only for the youngest of sprinters.

Around 700 contestants are expected to attend.

The egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. at Riverfront Park and, as usual, there will be five divisions to include every age group.

It all starts with the youngest of five age groupings the toddlers in the one to 17-month bracket for the "diaper dash division held east of the Ramadas in Riverfront Park.

The older age groups will follow in sequence: with the 18 to 35 month olds, then the 3 to 4 year olds, 5 to 6 year olds and the final age grouping of 7 to 8 year olds, where the competition gets fierce.

About $2,500 worth of prizes will pack toy-filled baskets and also include videos, stuffed animals and food coupons will be given away at this yearly special event. The program consists of loads of candy and plastic eggs filled with special prize tags and coupons that are scattered in five separate sections of the Ramada/Soccer field area of the park.

This community event would not be possible without the generous support of Wal-Mart Super Center, the Kiwanis Club of Clarkdale/Verde District, Pizza Hut, Jack-in-the-Box, KC's Tae Kwon Do, Sonic Drive-In, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Taco Bell and Mingus Union High School's Key Club.

When things got tight a few years ago, the city got help presenting the egg hunt from the Ledbetter Law firm and Friends of Cottonwood. Now its back to the way it used to be.

For further information on this fun, free youth event, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 639-3200.
