New book focuses on Sedona's Red Rock Loop area

The recently published book Red Rock Country Along the Loop Road is available in a second edition to help celebrate Arizona's centennial (1912 -2012).

This 94-page book describes the rural valley lying along Oak Creek, southwest of the city of Sedona. Color photos and maps supplement the text that highlights a history of human settlement there by indigenous peoples, family homesteaders and ranchers.

It points out geology, landmarks and the unique features of this riparian area so rich in flora and fauna.

Now home to Red Rock State Park and the federal Crescent Moon Recreation Area, the stories of this changing landscape will take the reader on a journey into the historical past and raise his awareness that this scenic landscape deserves to be preserved for the future.

Authored by Sam Braun, Norm Hanson, Birgit Loewenstein and Betty Cook with contributions from members of the Red Rock Rural Community, the book was edited by Bennie Blake and designed by Mary Helsaple.

The participants reside in the Loop Road area. All profits go to support the mission of the Red Rock Rural Community Association (RRRCA, dedicated to the preservation and well-being of the valley and its life-line, the Oak Creek, and to preserving a rural character of its community.

The book is for sale locally at the Sedona Heritage Museum, Well-Red Coyote Bookstore, Golden Words Books, Red Rock State Park Gift Shop, at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, and it can be ordered on the websites or
