Haiku & Mini Poetry Night in Camp Verde

Camp Verde's White Hills Gallery cordially invites everyone to join them for a Haiku and Short poetry event on Friday, Dec. 14, 5-8 p.m.

To celebrate the art of the mini poetry, White Hills Gallery will welcome local poet Roy Occhiline as their host for the night. Roy Occhiline, a local performer and poet originally from Phoenix, has recently been sought after throughout the Verde Valley for his talents in rap under the name Zodeak. With two performances coming up this month, Occhiline brings a fresh contemporary approach to the art of poetry. For this event, he encourages local poets of all types to come out and share the stage with him and recite their own original poetry in small form.

Everyone is invited to take the stage and recite a poem as long as it is one minute or under. If enough people sign up, there will be a haiku slam starting at 6 p.m., with the winner taking home a mini work of art.

The Haiku and Small Poetry night will celebrate the art of mini literature, in conjunction with the current exhibit "The Mini Show." "The Mini Show" includes over 200 mini masterpieces by over 30 local artists and runs through Friday, Jan. 4.. With examples of watercolor, mixed media, sculpture and more, in a variety of styles including, abstract, landscape, still life and folksy, "The Mini Show" redefines the size limit a masterpiece can be and includes a work of art for every taste.

All work featured in "The Mini Show" is $200 or less, with most under $70, to promote original art as holiday gifts.

The Haiku and Small Poetry event is free and open to the public. Hors D'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided by The Horn Saloon.

Voted best art gallery in the 2012 Verde Valley reader's choice awards, White Hills Gallery is located at 348 S. Main St. in downtown Camp Verde, next to The Horn Saloon, and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
