Plein Air artists participating in the Sedona Plein Air Festival will have their easels set up on the sidewalks and plazas along “Main Street” in Uptown. Their challenge is to create a painting from start to finish within the two and a half hour “Paint Out," using their own style and preferred media to capture the surrounding landscape, people, buildings, foliage, vehicles or anything else along the Main Street that catches their attention.

On Saturday, Oct. 20, 1:30-4 p.m., come see 30 Plein Air artists in action all in one area at one time, as they capture the beauty and charm of Uptown Sedona in the "Paint Out on Main Street."

All the nationally and regionally recognized Plein Air artists participating in the Sedona Plein Air Festival will have their easels set up on the sidewalks and plazas along "Main Street" in Uptown.

This free event is the kick-off for Sedona Arts Center's 8th annual Sedona Plein Air Festival, an eight-day celebration of outdoor painting.

As an invitational event, the artists must be award winning plein air artists with regional/national recognition and exposure via current fine art gallery representation.

Each year at least 30 percent are new to the festival and about 30 percent are from Arizona. "Plein-air artists paint from life in the out-of-doors (en plein air), capturing moments in time that reflect the changing colors, light and shadows, temperature and shifting elements.

The art form requires stamina, focus, and the ability to be completely absorbed in the work regardless of what Mother Nature is throwing at them.

Selected from among the best of the best, those who accepted invitations to participate come from all over the United States.

The "Main Street Paint Out" is sponsored by Sedona Main Street Program to bring together all these artists in a central location, so the public can witness all of them during their creative process in one place at the same time.

You can watch as the paintings develop plus meet and interact with the artists at work all along the "Main Street," a fun, unique and accessible place.

Then you can see all the completed works and purchase your favorite before the paint is even dry! The paintings created during the "Paint Out on Main Street" will be framed and exhibited for sale from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the Sedona Arts Center, at the north end of "Main Street" (SR 89A at the corner of Art Barn Road) in Uptown Sedona.

This is the first opportunity to purchase this year's creations, making it perfect for those in town just for the day.

Parking is available along SR 89A, at the Uptown Municipal Parking Lot and in the parking lot at Sedona Arts Center on Art Barn Road.
