Matthew Smith, one of Hawaii and Arizona's great spiritual and visionary artists, will be at the Andrea Smith Gallery in Sedona June 8, 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday, noon to 4 p.m..

Matthew, through his intuitive nature, has a magical way of connecting spirit, humanity and culture with the art, no matter the ethnic background.

When you view Matthew's work, one will immediately recognize that he has spent time in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.  He easily adapts himself to the reality of the culture involved.

"I love to paint the eyes into my art, whether the subject is mythical or real," Smith explained.

Like they say, the eyes are a journey to the soul. The viewer can see this in Smith's version of King Tut, or a commissioned portrait of a patron.  He always seems to capture the reality and the spirit of the imagery. Smith will be unveiling his latest works at his reception on Friday evening.

Smith has a fine arts degree from the University Of Hawaii, where he majored in painting and sculpture.  He has been painting professionally for over 20 years, with exhibitions throughout the United States, and studios in Hawaii and Sedona.

On Maui, he is a stay-at-home dad with his two boys, Sky and Jet. His studio is located in a third floor loft overlooking the bright blue Pacific Ocean.  The studio in Sedona is nestled in the Red Rock hideaway of Broken Arrow.  Smith's best support comes from wife, Kriston, who is always there to assist when not working in the real estate world.

The Andrea Smith Gallery is a gathering place for locals as well as tourists to view the fine art that moves the spirit in your heart.  Please join us and view our collection of sculpture, an international compilation of jewelry from the far reaches of the planet, books that will inspire and enlighten, along with paintings that fortify one's heart and soul.

The gallery is prominently located at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts village, in Sedona, Arizona, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
