5/14/2012 8:03:00 AM Anderson shows new talent in copper jewelry at Outlets Art & Craft Show
Greg Anderson is a watercolor painter who recently added the making of copper jewelry to his many talents.
The Art and Craft Show at the Factory Outlets is scheduled for May 18-20.
There will be a fine array of artists and craftsmen as usual and there will be something for everyone. For those of you who are relatively new to the area, these shows have been held at the Factory Outlets practically since it was built. This has been 16 years or so.
The featured artist for this show has been doing the Factory Outlet shows since the very beginning. Greg Anderson was a watercolor painter, mostly painting hummingbirds and flowers. His work was extremely popular and his mother even sold his paintings at Bell Rock Plaza Art Show. More recently, Greg decided to explore the medium of copper and his first works were framed pieces in copper, some of which he still displays, but his flair for copper jewelry soon became apparent. Greg is self taught in this medium, and his use of hammering, bending, patinas, texturing, stamping and many other techniques is very unusual and distinctive. His latest exploration is enameling, which is a rather lost art in itself. His display is high art in itself and his designs are limitless.
Also attending this show will be jewelry arts Patty Hoisch, Dyanne Silver, Dianne Dennon, Dave and Dena Small, Rosales Black, Gene Sabia, Justin Morris, Lisa Taylor, Viola Chavez, Paul Lasia, John Murphy, Glo Ybarra, Judy Olvera, and Katherine Duskin.
Photography will include Brent Cox, Joe & Robin Berardi, and Alan Magazine. There will be Native Flutes and also pipes, rattles and artifacts. Pottery will include fine Native American pottery and Mata Ortiz. Jenny Waddington also makes decorative red rock pottery pieces.Mel Mendez will bring his rugs which are a family weaving business and he has garnered more blue ribbons since last year. He will usually demonstrate the weaving of a rug on his loom. Larry Beck will feature not only his painted and framed sandstone wall art, but will be showing paintings too, and Terri Thurman will be back with her whimsical painted repossee copper wall art. Mark Breithaupt will be showing with his freeform abstract sculptures as well as candle covers carved from amber alabaster, and there will be a paper artist, Barbara Barkeley with very zen abstract works. There will be glass art, and soaps, lotions and spa products. There will be plenty of metal yard and wall art too.
