The Rotary Club of Sedona recently launched a literacy program called Imagination Library, which was founded by Dolly Parton. Prior to the launch date, Rotary members invited educators, librarians and business people to learn more about the program and to plan for its success.

Sponsored by the Dollywood Foundation and the Rotary Club of Sedona, Imagination Library is free for preschool children (from birth until their fifth birthday) who reside within the Sedona postal code area (86336, 86339, 86340, 86341 and 86351.)

There are two ways to register: pick up a registration form at SPL or SPL-V or register online at Follow the link to Imagination Library.

The Rotating Artists Program at SPL-V has met with huge success. The current display features the art work of three talented students from Sedona Red Rock High School (SRRHS): McKenzie Moore, Abby Parrella and Ismea Westerveldt. Geoffrey Worssam, the art teacher at SRRHS, was instrumental in assembling this exhibit, which continues through Saturday, May 19.

The next show entitled "Painting in Pairs" featuring the art work of Jill Williams begins Tuesday, May 22. Jill's work includes accent art painted on the rough side of Hardie Board. An artist's reception for Jill Williams will be Wednesday, May 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at SPL-V.

If you're interested in learning more about Carl T. Hayden (1877-1972), Arizona's first representative in the U.S. Congress, attend the living history presentation by Larry Edmonds on Wednesday, May 23. The program begins at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Road. This presentation is sponsored by the Arizona Humanities Council, the Sedona Public Library and the Sedona Friends of the Library and is free and open to the public. Donations are always welcome. You may also pick up your loaner copy of "Vanished Arizona" by Martha Summerhayes to prepare for the upcoming community book discussion on Monday, June 25.

Mark your calendar for the Village book sale June 21 through June 24 at the VOC Fire Station. SPL-V is currently accepting donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs for the sale. Donations should be in good condition. Due to limited storage space, please call SPL-V before you bring your donations to the library. We appreciate your bringing donations during business hours. Do not leave donations outside or put them in book drops. If you would like to volunteer at the Village book sale, call Cheryl Yeatts at 928.284.1603 or email

Sedona Public Library in the Village is at 7000 Highway 179, Suite C-102, in the courtyard of Tequa Plaza. Library hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library is closed Sunday and Monday.
