Sedona Giclee Gallery Artist Receives Awards

Photographer and mixed media artist Monika Hilleary recently received two awards for her fine art photograph "Ancients" at the SAGA "2012 Best Artists of Sedona Exhibition" Awards Event held at the Amara Resort.

Monika received both the First Place Award, as well as the People's Choice Award which was presented by the Mayor of Sedona, Rob Adams. The exhibition was juried for both entry and awards decisions by Jerry Smith, Curator for American and Western American Art for the Phoenix Art Museum.

Monika's winning fine art photograph is of an ancient, gnarled juniper located near Soldiers Pass in Sedona. Situated on time worn red rock outcroppings, the twisted juniper is captured against an evening sky full of stars or ancient celestial light. The tree alone was illuminated with a specialized "light painting" technique to selectively highlight the warm tones of the juniper in contrast to the cool deep indigo of the starry night. Preservation of a portion of the west unchanged through the millennia.

The resulting image has been printed as a giclée on Fine Art Photo Rag Paper, and is available as a print alone or enhanced with accent matting, copper fillet and framing.

Monika Hilleary is an accomplished Commercial and Fine Art Photographer, who in recent years has explored both Mixed Media Painting alone, and in combination with her photographs. She is formerly from Colorado and now lives in both Sedona and New Zealand. Her work has been featured in numerous publications in both countries which include but are not limited to: Luxe, Vail/Beaver Creek, Steamboat, Breckenridge, Sedona Magazine, Trends, Uno and Colorado Homes and Lifestyles Magazines.

Monika currently has Fine Art Photography as well as Mixed Media works represented at Sedona Giclée Gallery.

Sedona Giclée Gallery is located at 2055 W. 89A, Suite B, near the Harkins Theater, and is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Justin or Jodi Whittaker at (928) 282-4708 or visit the gallery online at
