SEDONA - touchstone gallery is pleased to announce the recent display of a massive Uruguayan Amethyst Geode in its Uptown Sedona gallery. This spectacular geode weighs more than 1,400 pounds and contains nearly a thousand pounds of deep, rich purple amethyst crystals.

A large window reveals wall-to-wall clusters of amethyst including stalactite crystal structures. The window also reveals complementary calcite crystals. Several smaller portholes give views of mystically pretty crystals within..... If you like amethyst, this piece is a remarkable "must see".

The Geode is featured alongside the museum quality fossils, world class minerals, stunning home décor and contemporary jewelry that make touchstone gallery the finest natural art gallery in Sedona.

Amethyst's lore includes a wonderful Greek legend involving a chaste young woman named Amethystos being pursued by tigers sent by Dionysus, the deity of wine and debauchery. To save the fair Amethystos from the tigers, Diana, the goddess of the hunt, turned her into a statue of clear rock crystal. Dionysus' remorse at that turn of events caused him to spill his goblet of wine upon the lovely Amethystos, transforming the pure white quartz maiden to a deep royal purple.

Simply Beautiful Gemstones - Amethyst has an extensive history of being among the most prized of gemstones. Its scarcity and purple color made amethyst a favorite of ancient royalty. Amethyst jewelry was worn by Egyptian Royalty, Catherine II of Russia, and is showcased in the Orb and King's Scepter of the British Crown Jewels.

With an improved supply of gemstone quality amethyst, today's contemporary jewelers have made Amethyst the Star of a wide range of beautiful and interesting jewelry.

Amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February. Amethyst jewelry makes a much appreciated gift all year round.

touchstone gallery is located Upstairs in the Sinagua Plaza in Uptown Sedona. Open daily 9-7. Phone: 204-4405
