A Mandarin court robe from the Chinese Qing Dynasty is the centerpiece of a new exhibit at Cocopah North in Sedona's Creekside Plaza.

Embellished with hand-embroidered dragons executed in gold thread, this robe was standard court wear for emperors and high officials.

The front has large dragons coiling in space and smaller dragons on the shoulders. The lower garment is decorated with ocean waves and the peak of Mt. Kunlun, a mountain at the center of the world.

A pair of Chinese women's slippers for bound feet (circa 1850 AD) is another historically significant artifact on exhibit.  In Imperial China, women had their feet broken, with toes folded under and bound to create the tiny feet found so seductive during this period.  The slippers measure 5 ½" in length and would have been worn by an adult woman.

Two vintage silk Japanese wedding kimonos are also being shown.  Hand-embroidered with flying cranes, the symbol of long life and good fortune, they are excellent examples of this traditional style.

Along with these rare treasures, there is a collection of vintage silk kimonos priced from $75 to $150.

Cocopah North also has a collection of vintage American patchwork quilts, African artifacts, Indian pawn, estate jewelry, and a selection of beads and bead kits with the emphasis on 'Made in the Southwest.'

Cocopah North is a consignment gallery. Hours are 10 to 6 daily.
