3/5/2012 9:03:00 AM Diane Dennen is March featured artist at Factory Outlet Art & Craft Show
Diane Dennen's work involves texture, a combination of metals and stones from around the world, and many pieces include the processes of reticulation and granulation, which are unusual to find, because they are so labor intensive.
The Factory Outlet Art and Craft Shows are here again. The March show is the first and there will be several in the spring, then several again in the fall.
These are anxiously awaited by the artists and the stores in the Outlet Mall alike. There will be at least 50 artists and craftsmen showing at the Factory Outlet show, and there will be paintings, photography, jewelry, pottery, spa products and soaps, aromatherapy, metal sculpture, glass, mosaic and more.
Featured at this show will be an artist originally from Maine, but now living in the Sierra Vista area. She has been spending winters in Arizona for quite some time, helping her father who cuts and polishes stones and has a booth at the Quartsite Gem Show in January of every year. Her name is Diane Dennen and she literally learned her craft at her father's knee. He has been a silversmith for 50 years, and shared the art of designing and the love of stones with her.
They hand cut and polish them all from rough. She has also attended many specialized workshops with some of the masters of the jewelry world.
Her work involves texture, a combination of metals and stones from around the world, and many pieces include the processes of reticulation and granulation, which are unusual to find, because they are so labor intensive.
She has received several awards from various art guilds. The silver sheet is annealed, pickled and cleaned six to eight times for reticulation, which is wrinkle, rise and texture.
She then heats the silver and focuses the flame onto the silver in one spot until it starts to reticulate. She adds granulation in silver, gold or copper to many pieces at this point, and adds a second piece of silver to the back and files all edges to create one piece.. Each piece is totally unique and cannot be duplicated.
The Factory Outlet show is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 9-11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The Factory Outlets are located in the Village Of Oakcreek on Hwy 179.
