Movie Review: Knowledge is power in thriller 'Lucy'
If one hadn't read or heard about this movie, they might be deceived by the title Lucy. A knock off of "I Love Lucy" it isn't.  An animation with Charlie Brown's nemesis, Lucy ... not by a long shot.

No, the simplistic name contradicts the movie's mind-bending plot; suspenseful and thoroughly entertaining at every turn.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes studies frailties of trust
If nothing else, the continuing fascination with simians taking over the world is more proof of the visionary creativity of Rod Serling. Forty-six years after the "Twilight Zone" genius penned Planet of the Apes, we have a sequel to the prequel that rebooted in this century.

Tammy a weak comedy entry in summer lineup
There doesn't seem to be much to say in praise of this movie. Perhaps its best feature is its modest length (by today's standard) of 95 minutes. Even at that, it seemed to go on - and on - past several logical endings.

October Sky revisited: Modern classic for the whole family
On July 2, the Mary D Fisher Theater is showing the 1999 film October Sky. It is a movie that gives you the kind of pleasure that differs from the rush of smash-bang comic-book thrillers, or from the fright of hair-raising horror and surrealistic films. It won't titillate your sense of humor at the lowest possible level of taste and morality. And it's a true story.

Movie Review: Don't have to be a fanboy to enjoy 'Jersey Boys'
Not everyone is a fan of the singing group, The Four Seasons, fronted by Frankie Valli, and not everyone is a fan of their brand of music. Count me in both categories. Jersey Boys is about the early struggles of the quartet to reach success - struggles that included their roots and their life in a very rough culture.
