Sedona-Clarkdale blues jams earn endorsement from Northern Arizona Blues Alliance

Joe Neri, host of the ongoing and popular monthly blues jams in Clarkdale and Sedona, has announced that the two monthly jams have been endorsed as official events of the Northern Arizona Blues Alliance.

The Northern Arizona Blues Alliance is an official affiliate of the national Blues Foundation, representing blues fans and musicians throughout Northern Arizona. The Blues Foundation is Memphis-based, but world-renown as the organization dedicated to preserving our blues music history, celebrating recording and performance excellence, supporting blues education and ensuring the future of this uniquely American art form.

Founded in 1980, The Blues Foundation has 4500 individual members and 200 affiliated local blues societies representing another 50,000 fans and professionals around the world.

"It's heartening to know that our local blues jams are actually making an impact on preserving and promoting the blues," Neri said. "The Clarkdale jam, in its fourth year, is going strong, and our two inaugural jams in Sedona have far exceeded our expectations with respect to fans in attendance and musicians performing."

The Sedona Blues Jam is held from 7-10 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month at Relics Restaurant & Lounge (3235 West SR89A).

The Clarkdale Blues Jam is held from 7-10 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at the 10-12 Lounge (910 Main Street). The next Clarkdale jam will be this Thursday, July 18.

Blues Jams

• On the first Thursday of every month, Relics, 3235 W. SR 89A in West Sedona, from 7-10 p.m.

• On the third Thursday of every month, 10-12 Lounge in Clarkdale, from 7-10 p.m.

Both jams are open to all musicians, blues or otherwise, electric and acoustic. If you sing and/or play guitar, harmonica, keyboard, horn, bass, drums or anything else, you are invited to come by and jam with Neri and his band. This is not an open mic, where you get up on stage and play a couple of songs and then get off. This is a true jam session, with music and musicians flowing with the mood, on stage and off, throughout the evening.
