4/16/2013 6:56:00 AM Green Light returns to Sedona Wine & Beer Co.
Led by songwriters Chicky Brooklyn and Tommy Best, Green Light is known for their extended jams featuring the musical virtuosity of lead guitarist J.R. Robusto, and trombone/keyboard player Uncle Marc.
Green Light, a Sedona-based all-original music band, returns to the Sedona Wine and Beer Co. (The Hoppy Grape Lounge) Saturday, April 20, 7 to 10 p.m.
Known for their extended jams featuring the musical virtuosity of lead guitarist J.R. Robusto, and trombone/keyboard player Uncle Marc, Green Light continues to wow audiences and grow in popularity with people from all generations that love a good show and tunes they can sing along with and dance to at the same time.
Led by songwriters Chicky Brooklyn and Tommy Best, the band never let's up or runs out of new-original material to play and the people never stop loving it.
"We are writing new material so fast we barely have time to rehearse the songs before playing them on stage," said bass player Tommy Acosta. "It's crazy."
"The sound has gotten so big with Uncle Marc & J.R. Robusto," said Chicky Brooklyn. "Tommy and I are happy just to be on stage with these guys when they take off and do their thing. We never know where our jams will take us but we know we're gonna have fun."
And fun is what the band is all about. With Chicky and Tommy coming from rival neighborhoods in New York City they never miss an opportunity to tease each other on stage, in a good-natured way only good friends can handle.
"The band loves to watch Tommy and Chicky go at it," Uncle Marc said. "They are like an old-married couple."
Tommy and Chicky met in Ahwatukee, in Arizona, more than 10 years ago when Tommy's pet Daschund jumped on Chicky's bikini-clad girlfriend's lap while they sat by a pool.
"It was a ploy," Tommy said. "She was hot and my puppy was well trained. What I didn't expect was Chicky being a song writer like me. We left his girlfriend and the dog together, picked up our guitars and started rocking."
Soon they were co-writing catchy tunes about life and love and people, tunes that stay solid in your mind and heart long after they have been played.
"We are like the band we missed hearing while growing up and now that we are established Baby Boomers we get the treat of playing all this brand-new music our generation did not get to hear back then," Tommy said.
The band is looking real forward to their next gig at The Hoppy Grape Lounge on 89A in West Sedona
"We really like playing there," Chicky said. "The classy atmosphere, great selection of wines and beers, fabulous tapas and upscale clientele combine to make our gigs at the Hoppy Grape Lounge a happening experience. We like to think of the Sedona Wine & Beer Co. as our "Cavern," the Beatles' favorite place to play in Liverpool, England before they became famous."
The Sedona Wine & Beer Co. is located at 2575 W. S.R. 89A in West Sedona
