On Sunday, Dec. 2, the Red RockAppella chorus performs its sixth annual holiday show, Music! Music! Music!, at the Church of the Red Rocks in Sedona.

Under the direction of Sandy Wingate, this entertaining chapter of Sweet Adelines kicks off the season in musical style, presenting a variety of traditional and contemporary holiday favorites, guaranteed to regale and delight.

Although the definition of a cappella means "without musical accompaniment," the rich vocals and lilting voices of Red RockAppella demonstrate that the human voice is, indeed, the truest form of accompaniment and harmony.

The show's special guest is the award-winning quartet, "Ms.Cellaneous," who were show-stoppers at the chorus's 2010 show. In addition to the quartet's outstanding voices and flawless harmony, this crowd-pleasing foursome puts some rollicking fun back in Barbershop music.

A delightful young women's quartet from Scottsdale, Dreamcatchers, will sing a couple of songs from their successful debut at the Sweet Adelines convention in Denver earlier this month, where they took fourth place in the Young Women In Harmony International quartet competition.

Harmony on the Rocks, the popular men's Barbershop chorus, is part of the show's entertainment as well. Local superstar Jeanie Carroll, also a member of Red RockAppella, is a featured soloist, and members of the Sweet Adelines Prescott chapter, Song of the Pines, join Red RockAppella for a number of holiday songs.

"The musical talent that is concentrated in this area is phenomenal," Wingate says, "and every year it just seems to be getting better and better."

The Red RockAppella chapter began seven years ago under the direction of Lynnell Diamond, who has since moved to Florida. The duties of director fell to Wingate, who, for the past five years, has successfully continued the tradition of true Barbershop harmony and excellence in the chorus's performance. "Any woman in the Verde Valley area who likes to sing is welcome to come meet us and join the chapter," says Wingate. "We rehearse Monday evenings in the VOCA Community room."

Red RockAppella meets every Monday at 6:30 (except during December) at the Village of Oakcreek Association's (VOCA) Country Club, 690 Bell Rock Blvd. in VOC. Rehearsals for the chorus' spring performance begin Jan. 7.

In addition to the annual holiday show, Red RockAppella performs several times throughout the year at special events and charitable functions in the community and competes in a Sweet Adelines regional contest in April.

Plan to ring in the holidays with this enormously popular show. Its harmony, inspiration, fun, and great songs are sure to please every eye and ear.

The sole performance of Music! Music! Music! is on Sunday, December 2, at 2 pm, at the Church of the Red Rocks, 54 Bowstring Drive, Sedona. Tickets are $15 ($10 for ages 12 and under) and may be purchased at Bashas' in Sedona, Weber's IGA in VOC, from any Red RockAppella member, or at the door on the day of the performance.

For show information and tickets or for general information about the chorus, call Jan at 928-284-9978 or Sandy at 928-451-2566 or visit the chapter's website at www.redrockappella.org.
