It will be a weekend of rock and blues at Main Stage, with bands of different generations putting their own spin on America's music.

On Friday, Aug. 16, Tempe bands Banana Gun and Japhy's Descent return to the Main Stage.  Each band puts their own modern twist on their fusion of rock, blues, and funk.

Frontmen Kevin Loyd (Banana Gun) and Travis Japhy (Japhy's Descent) have shared many a stage together and each bring the charisma of their forefathers to the stage.  Similarly, both are joined and backed up by proficient, tight-knit, high-energy musical units in their supporting casts.  In light of this, both bands have played a host of festivals in the US in the last few years including South by Southwest, Apache Lake Music Festival, McDowell Mountain Music Festival, and GumptionFest to name a few.

The show is free and starts at 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 17, sees the Main Stage debut of Verde Valley blues regulars Blues Dawg and Don Hutchinson's Kings of the Border.  Blues Dawg is a contemporary electric blues band steeped in the traditions of American blues and roots music, a seasoned and professional band of musicians with decades of performance experience, including most of the venues throughout Sedona and the Verde Valley.

Blues Dawg was founded by Joe Neri in the mid-'90s in Los Angeles, playing most of the Southern California venues and recording two studio and three live albums.  After moving to Northern Arizona in early 2005, he re-formed the band, but kept the same basic sound of covers and original blues.

Don Whitcher is a nationally-prominent slide player, whose previous band - Slant 6 Cowboys - charted in the Americana and Roots Country charts in 2004. He is a very original and prolific songwriter with a voice that is deep and passionate. Since moving to Northern Arizona a few years ago, he has established himself as one of the best slide guitar and lap steel guitar players in the Southwest.

The show is free and starts at 9:30 p.m.

Main Stage is located at 1 S Main St. in Cottonwood.  The venue is open Wednesday - Saturday, 4 p.m.-1 a.m. and Sundays 11 a.m.-1 a.m.  All events are free to the public.  For more information please call (928)202-3460 or visit www.mainstagetheater.com.
