Sara Robinson & the Midnight Special
Northern Arizona's newest music venue, art gallery and night club, Main Stage, will open Saturday May 18 with a full calendar of nightly and weekly events that promise to be a welcomed surge of energy and entertainment to Cottonwood and the rest of the Verde Valley.
The venue eagerly anticipates the May 18 grand opening featuring national act and venue co-founder, Christopher Robin Band, who has toured with the likes of Willie Nelson, Allman Brothers, and Los Lobos.
Robin will be joined by Phoenix area Americana outfit, Kevin Daly's Chicken and Waffles and Prescott's Here Come Cowboys who recently recorded at Phoenix's Stem Recording and are set to release their debut album this June. The evening will also feature a ribbon cutting, live art, and Cottonwood's own DJ Pandora.
The venue's first full weekend of shows follows suit the next weekend with Phoenix Blues Rock act, Sara Robinson & the Midnight Special on Friday May 24.
The band recently released their debut record and has already shared the stage with Gin Blossoms and Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers and performed at this year's McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Phoenix.
They will be accompanied by the "funky fresh Latin reggae rock n' roll" of Tempe's Hourglass Cats. On Saturday May 25 Phoenix's robust young up and coming folk act Jared & the Mill will headline the room.
The band is fresh off performances at Austin's SXSW, Phoenix's McDowell Mountain Music and Albuquerque's Edge Fest. Drawing comparisons to Mumford and Sons the band is quickly gaining the attention of the industry and media alike.
Jared & the Mill will be joined by Tempe's high energy indie act Darkness Dear Boy, also presently in studio working on a new record.
Other upcoming performances include Phoenix acts Zero Zero, PALMS, Banana Gun, Future Loves Past, The Sugar Thieves as well as other Arizona acts, including Sedona's decker., Tucson's The Tryst and Carlos Artzate, Denver's Ark Life and the gypsy folk of Austin, TX's Vana Mazi.
Main Stage's emphasis on art and community will take shape June 7 in the form of the first of their First Fridays events and will feature Tempe's hip hop act The Insects and their audio/visual extravaganza including poetry and live art.
The evening will also feature the grand opening of the venue's art gallery with Phoenix area artist/musician Jody Lew sharing her art.
The venue will have a host of weekly events including Sunday's "Church of Bluegrass" with regional Bluegrass acts performing in the early afternoon accompanied by a fresh Bloody Mary breakfast. Monday nights see "Pulp Lounge," while Wednesday night is ladies night featuring DJ's and drink specials.
Christopher Robin hosts his brand of Nashville's Music Mafia invite only songwriter's bash on Thursday nights.
