11/26/2012 12:37:00 PM Actor, singer, guitarist Ronny Cox comes to Old Town Cottonwood
Ronny Cox is an artist who wears a variety of hats from actor, author to musician. His first love is music and his style is eclectic. Ronny’s recording, “Ronny Cox…Songs With Repercussions” hit the No. 1 spot on the U.S. folk charts, although in his case the word “folk” is a slight misnomer. He’s a storyteller. Ronny’s songs are eclectic, funny, touching, insightful and compelling.
You're invited to relax and enjoy an intimate evening of stories and songs with Ronny Cox and Dan Engler at the Old Town Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov. 30, 7:30 p.m. Come to Old Town earlier for a special VIP event, and enjoy wine tasting and chocolates. The VIP event begins at 4 p.m.
Ronny Cox is an artist who wears a variety of hats from actor, author to musician. His first love is music and his style is eclectic. Ronny's recording, "Ronny Cox...Songs With Repercussions" hit the No. 1 spot on the U.S. folk charts, although in his case the word "folk" is a slight misnomer. He's a storyteller. Ronny's songs are eclectic, funny, touching, insightful and compelling. Each tune showcases an original, sophisticated lyric-driven sound and the stories that accompany these songs... are something else entirely.
His latest recording, "Ronny, Rad and Karen" was recorded in a Los Angeles studio in one day. In fact, it was recorded in five and a half hours and features Radislov Lorkovic and Karen Mal.
Ronny, one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, is often ironically identified with the villains he has played in movies like TOTAL RECALL, ROBOCOP and the ruthless politician in the hit science fiction TV series STARGATE. Ronny's first film ... his first time acting in front of a camera....was as the guitarist in the famous "dueling banjos" scene in DELIVERANCE. His second big film was BOUND FOR GLORY, Hal Ashby's film about Woody Guthrie. His career spans over 125 films and television shows
The year 2012 marks the 40th Anniversary of Deliverance and Ronny is celebrating it via his book, Dueling Banjos: The Deliverance of Drew and Warner Bros Home Video has released a deluxe version of the film. The truth, though is Ronny has been writing songs and telling stories for over four decades. He's recorded five albums that span a range of genres and emotions, full of humor and insightful lyricism.
Only in the last 10 years or so has the world seen him evolve from being an "actor who sings" into knowing him as a "singer who happens to have a pretty fair career acting."
Joining Ronny for this concert will be Cornville singer-songwriter Dan Engler, who will open the show. Dan has played to several sold out shows at OTCA and adds his own blend of local insights, anecdotes, and humor to his compositions
Ronny says. "I'm interested in weaving a tapestry of songs and stories with an over-all arc that eventually comes together and tells us something about 'the human condition'. I know that sounds kinda pompous... but that's what I'm trying to do ..... and to have a few laughs along the way."
