4/16/2012 8:01:00 AM Earth Day poems at Bent River
Bert Cisneros, the elder poet of Cottonwood, might be as old as the hills but Saturday, April 21, he will be reading poems about the hills at Bent River Books and Music as part of an Earth Day Celebration.
Bent River Books will host a gathering of poets, poetry, and planet earth lover from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
A variety of poets will join Bert Cisneros onstage including such Verde Valley notables as award winning poet Clint Frakes. Frakes is a poet, teacher, editor, and naturalist who has been living in the valley for many years
His work has appeared in hundreds of journals and he is the former editor of Hawaii Review and Big Rain.
Bert Cisneros has been a member of the Sedona writing salon for many years and has been widely published while performing in slams in Sedona and Flagstaff.
Well known author Gene K. Garrison will be reading and those who have seen her read before won't want to miss it. Garrison is the author of From Thunder to Breakfast a biography of Cave Creek and Phoenix legend Hube Yates.
Also reading will be Gary Every author of the award winning book Shadow of the OhshaD. OhshaD is a Native American word for jaguar as the book celebrates the return of the big powerful cats to the southwest. He will also be performing selections from his newest book Battling the Hydra a collection of encounter with (mostly) wild animals.
Several members of the Sedona writing salon are expected to lend their words to this performance such as Ellen Kashk and Linda Stone.
The owners of Bent River Books and Music conceive of this event as a real community happening and people who wish to get up on stage and say a few words on behalf of Planet Earth are welcome to do so.
What better way to celebrate Earth Day than having the residents of this beautiful world get up and speak their minds about the state of the environment.
Bent River Books encourages anyone who has anything to say about our lovely world to come to Bent River Books and Music on Saturday, April 21, from 1:30 to 4 or just come and listen.
