In Sedona, organizers have raised nearly $60,000 with performances of "The Vagina Monologues” in the past five years.

Tickets are going fast for the ground-breaking play "The Vagina Monologues," which returns to Sedona on Friday, April 13 as part of V-Day Sedona 2012.

Transforming for both cast and audience alike, this funny irreverent and poignant show features a diverse group of women from the Verde Valley. The Los Angeles Times said of the V-Day charity. "Eve Ensley's The Vagina Monologues is not just a play anymore. It's a social movement."

In Sedona, organizers have raised nearly $60,000 with performances of "The Vagina Monologues" in the past five years.

"I am humbled and proud to a part of this amazing charity and want to thank everyone who has been involved in the past four years," says V-Day Organizer and President of the Verde Valley Sanctuary Board Mindy Mendelsohn, "Whether they have been a part of the cast, a sponsor, donated a prize or bought a ticket to the show together we have made a tremendous difference to the Verde Valley Sanctuary. "

The money raised for Verde Valley Sanctuary has gone for things such as a new roof and adding new beds to house women and children often in dire life threatening circumstances.

"I think we sometimes forget how powerful we are individually." says Mendelsohn "The audience will have an incredible, funny poignant evening, and while they are enjoying themselves they will also be making a crucial contribution to women and children they don't even know."

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensley's award winning play The Vagina Monologues and other artistic works.

In 2012, over 4000 V-Day benefit events took place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.

This year nine members of the European Parliament, from various political parties, joined V-Day founder Eve Ensler participated in a benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues in honor of International Women's day.

To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $90 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it,. V-Day was named one of Worth magazine's "100 Best Charities" in 2001 and Marie Claire's "Top Ten Charities" in 2006.

This year's production of the Vagina Monologues once again features an array of talented women from the Verde Valley. Combined over the past five years 200 different women from the area have performed in the annual benefit production.

There are new monologues this year, hilarious new facts and many surprises. The show is being completely restaged. Past year people who have also seen the show in other places have commented that the Verde Valley Production is better than or rivals what they have seen in major cities.

V-Day Sedona's production of "The Vagina Monologues" takes place on Friday, April 13, 7:30 p.m. at the Sedona Creative Life Center.

Tickets are tax deductible and 90 percent of the proceeds go to the Verde Valley Sanctuary with 10 percent going back to the world-wide campaign to stop violence against women and girls.
